In a recent announcement, Principal Jenna Morley has confirmed through the school newsletter that this year's highly anticipated prom will be themed "Pride and Prejudice: A Regency Romance." The news has left Farrow High School students and staff and us buzzing with mixed emotions and varying opinions about the chosen theme.
I don't really know what to think about this. On one hand, it has the potential to be extremely cute. Think flowy high-waisted gowns, elegant hairstyles adorned with ribbons and feathers, silk gloves, lace fans, and the graceful etiquette of a bygone era. Live string quartet, anyone? This one has extreme fashion potential, but I don't know if Farrow High's students can manage to pull off a Regency ball.
Apart from fashion and aesthetic considerations, this theme also leans very heteronormative... how the student body might make the event more thematically inclusive, we'll have to wait and see.
